Monday eye-opener: Was it a Payton win or a Peyton loss?

Monday, February 8, 2010
Good morning.
So now that it is over and you've had time to celebrate or mourn, how did you view last night's Super Bowl?
Was it a Payton win or a Peyton loss?
Did the Saints benefit most from the slick moves from coach Sean Payton or an untimely mistake by Peyton Manning?
Payton's on-side kick was a move that makes you a genius or bum depending on the outcome.
But he was aggressive all night and sent a message to his team on 4th and goal  that they would not sit back and let the action come to them.
No right-minded football fan would doubt the greatness that is Manning. But of all the scenarios painted prior to the game, Manning throwing a costly interception was not among most of them.

Manning credited the Saints defense. Here is video of the play that sealed the game.
The report card by USA TODAY's Sean Leahy gave Peyton's passing offense a "C" and Payton's coaching an "A."
Grade: C Peyton Manning stood tall until the 3:24 mark of the fourth quarter. His game-icing interception returned for a touchdown by Tracy Porter broke the Colts' back. All the good Manning had done rallying the Colts to that point was undone with an uncharacteristic mistake.
Grade: A "Get aggressive" was Sean Payton's mantra. He missed on a fourth-and-goal run from the 1 in the first half. But his onside kick call to start the second half surprised almost everyone in the stadium. And his go-for-two decision in the fourth quarter paid off. It was the sign of a coach who wanted to win.
The talk of Manning's legacy, so strong before the game,  has stalled.
So did Sean Payton win the game or Peyton Manning lose it?

While we wait on the split-decision here is some good work by some good people that we might have missed while sleeping or watching Betty White and Abe Vigoda get ready for some football.
